Chart Champ has returned for it's 6th annual installment!

This year we're going to be doing things a little differently. The event will take place at the Mendon Twin Drive-in in Mendon, MA and will focus on the Chart Champ finalist presentation plus a movie and food for everyone!

Event 1 - Chart Champ

Welcome to the main event - hosted at the Mendon Twin Drive-In! Our finalists will be presenting their analytic creations to our esteemed judges and the crowd, demonstrating their expert application and creativity. Of course, they won't leave empty handed, the first prize winner will take home a $1,000 Amazon gift card!

Event 2 - Back to the Future!

Stick around after the Chart Champ presentation for a private showing of Stephen Spielberg's 1985 blockbuster, BACK TO THE FUTURE!

Oh, and we will have a REAL DeLorean on-site before the chart champ presentations start for you to check out and take pictures with!

Where is the Event?

We are back with a *modified* in-person event this year at the Mendon Twin Drive-in. The event will be at an outdoor venue where you can socialize (if desired) with others or you can hang in your car and watch the show! We wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable and safe in the current COVID climate.

Adult humans! (Must be in attendance to qualify)

Why Enter?

We are happy to announce that our grand prize is a $1,000 Amazon Gift Card (don't spend it all in once place)! Second and third place won't leave empty handed (with $300 and $150 Amazon Gift Cards of their own!)

How to Enter?

Step 1: Register

You will need to register both if you are competing OR spectating. Click the button to the right to register. NOTE - only sign up if you are sure that you are coming, space is limited!

This year getting the data is easy, just click the link to the right and download the zipped data to your local computer!

Step 4: Build & Submit

You must build and submit your dashboard to us by September 24, 2021. Dashboards should be published to Tableau Public and the link should be emailed to Dustin.Cabral@cleartelligence.com

Step 5: Attend the Event

You must be in attendance in order to qualify for the contest. You will be presenting your dashboard in front of the audience and judges.

What is the data?

The data is IMDB movie data including 81,000 movies, ratings, etc!
You are strongly encouraged to make this analysis your own - take this in whatever direction you like (sentiment analysis, business dashboard, mobile movie review site, etc)!

Presentation

Competitors should prepare a 5 minute presentation. The presentation is going to be quick, so time yourself when you are practicing! The presentation should be structured using the below categories.
What did you create?
Who is the audience?
What is the goal?

Judging

Dashboards will be judged on three key areas:
- Design (25%) – Make it look spiffy, people like looking at pretty things
- Functionality (25%) – Make it cool and functional, its Tableau :)
- Storytelling / Usability (50%) – The dashboard should tell a story and allow users to dive into the data!

A finalist pool will be chosen prior to the event and those finalists will need to be present at the event to qualify for the grand prize! The finalists will give a very brief presentation at the event (~five minutes). After final presentations, final scoring will be assessed and the winner will be announced!

Important Dates:

September 6th - Chart Champ is officially open! Follow the steps above to register and receive the data!

September 24th - Dashboard submission due date. All dashboards are due (no exceptions!).

October 13th - Chart Champ! - 6:00pm - 10:00pm (in person at Mendon Twin Drive-In)

Key Points:

Data

Contestants must use at least one of the provided data set(s). Additional data can be used if desired.

Dashboards

One dashboard per contestant
Dashboards must be one page only
Workbooks must be submitted via Tableau Public - Email your submission link to Dustin.Cabral@cleartelligence.com

Computers

We will be pre-recording finalist presentations so they'll be ready for the big screen, so be ready for a zoom call to record your five-minute demo! You will need to be in person at the event as well to participate.

Dress

Wear whatever you are comfortable in! If you want to be really cool, wear your data gear!
