Chart Champ has returned for it's 5th annual installment!

 

This year we will be combining technologies from Tableau, Alteryx, and Snowflake to challenge our contestants to the max!

 

We've moved the event to a virtual format this year, spread over 3 days! And as far as the data is concerned, its downright SCARY!

Event Summary:

Join our hands-on "Zero to Snowflake" workshop to learn how to cut your time to insight, instantly scale and analyze all of your data by all users with the only data platform built for the cloud. Learn how to set up a data warehouse in practically no time and start receiving the actionable insights your business needs!

Event Summary:

Our Tableau & workshops will focus on upping your Tableau game while using some of our contests Halloween themed data! We will start with a session covering all the new features in the latest version of Tableau as well as a special "Tableau Toolkit" session presented by our host, Dustin Cabral!

Event 3: Chart Champ

Welcome to the main event - hosted online this year, so the more the merrier! Our finalists will be presenting their analytic creations to our esteemed judges and the crowd, demonstrating their expert application and creativity. Of course, they won't leave empty handed, you all know by now that we give away some cool prizes to those brave enough to compete in Chart Champ!

Where is the Event:

Due to COVID-19 this year's event will be virtual, but don't worry - that just means we will be able to reach a much wider audience (and you get to wear sweatpants!) :)

  • 12:00 pm:  Welcome & Introductions​

  • 12:05 pm:  Dashboard Presentations​

  • 1:05 pm:  Judging

  • 1:25 pm:  Winners Announced & Presentation of prizes

Who Should Enter?

  • Adult Humans! (Must be in attendance online to qualify)

  • Individuals Only (no teams)

  • Cannot work for Tableau, Alteryx or Snowflake

  • 18+ Years Old

Why Enter?

We are happy to announce that our grand prize is a $1,500 Amazon Gift Card (don't spend it all in once place)! Second and third place won't leave empty handed (with $500 and $250 Amazon Gift Cards of their own!)

How to Enter?

Step 1: Register

​

You will need to register both if you are competing OR spectating. Click the button to the right to register.

Step 2: Get the Data

​

This year getting the data is easy, just click the link to the right and download the zipped data to your local computer!

Step 4: Build & Submit

​

You must build and submit your dashboard to us by October 19, 2020. Dashboards should be published to Tableau Public and the link should be emailed directly to Dustin at Dustin.Cabral@cleartelligence.com

Step 5: Attend the Event

​

You must be in attendance in order to qualify for the contest. You will be presenting your dashboard live in front of the audience and judges (virtually).

What is the data?

  • The data is IMDB horror movie data including 9,000 movies, tons of reviews, and actors! 

  • You are strongly encouraged to make this analysis your own - take this in whatever direction you like (sentiment analysis, business dashboard, mobile movie review site, etc)!

Presentation

  • Competitors should prepare a 5 minute presentation! The presentation is going to be quick, so time yourself when you are practicing (we will have a timer to help you keep track)! The presentation should be structured using the below categories.

  • What did you create?

  • Who is the audience?

  • What is the goal?

Judging

  • Dashboards will be judged on 3 key areas:

    • Design (25%) – Make it look spiffy, people like looking at pretty things

    • Functionality (25%) – Make it cool and functional, its Tableau :)

    • Storytelling / Usability (50%) – The dashboard should tell a story and allow users to dive into the data!​​

A finalist pool will be chosen prior to the event and those finalists will need to present at the event to qualify for the grand prize! The finalists will give a very brief presentation at the event (~5 minutes). After final presentations, final scoring will be assessed and the winner will be announced!

Important Dates:

September 18th  - Chart Champ is officially open! Follow the steps above to register and receive the data!

October 19th - Dashboard submission due date. All dashboards are due (no exceptions!).

October 27th - Snowflake Workshop - 12:00 - 2:00pm!

​

October 28th - Tableau & Alteryx Workshops 12:00 - 2:00pm!

​

October 29th - The main event! Come see the competitors present their dashboards live 12:00 - 2:00pm!

Key Points:

Data

  • Contestants must use at least 1 of the provided data set(s). Additional data can be used if desired.

Dashboards

  • One Dashboard Per Contestant!!

  • Dashboards must be 1 page only!

  • Workbooks must be submitted via Tableau Public - Email your submission link to Dustin.Cabral@cleartelligence.com

Computers

  • Make sure that your laptop is ready for presenting - you've got a quiet room, snacks, and a local version of your dashboard/workflows (just in case!).

​
Dress

  • Wear whatever you are comfortable in! If you want to be really cool, wear your Tableau, Alteryx, or Snowflake gear!
